Practice Operations Product Manager

Using the M06- Practice Operations Product Manager Planning.xlsx with the 12 chosen products and their associated values of quantity, sales price, desired delivery time, and quality versus the capabilities of both the operations and the suppliers, evaluate which 5 products you would choose in priority order.
Here is a video explaining how to use the workbook. (Links to an external site.)
You should, just for analysis purposes, test four items in the workbook: 1. HR resources in the Human Resources worksheet, just as you did in a previous assignment, 2. Machine level in the Machines worksheet, as in a previous assignment. 3. and some combination of Quantity, Sales Price, Requested # Weeks To Deliver (Due Date), and Quality Level.
You must do your analysis based on the data you are given but you can test different scenarios as listed above to help you deepen your analysis.
ASSIGNMENT DETAILS
Using the workbook you downloaded with the 12 chosen products and their associated values of quantity, sales price, desired delivery time, and quality versus the capabilities of both the operations and the suppliers, evaluate which 5 products you would choose in priority order.
Assignment Part 1:
Use the workbook and worksheet exactly as the data is presented to you when you first open it. You will get a chance to test scenarios later. For now, you simply want to examine the 12 products and choose the 5 products you would pick as the best.
Explain in detail why you would choose the 5 products. This should be a very extensive analysis based on (at least)

  1. Total profit dollars
  2. Gross profit margin
  3. Supplier capability (quality and delivery)
  4. Operations capability
  5. Ability to deliver on time
  6. Ability to delver at or better than desired quality
    Assignment Part 2:
Using the same workbook, manipulate the data at least twice each in the Human Resources and Machines worksheets to test the effects on the products.
  7. What changes did you make in each sheet?
  8. Why?
  9. What was the effect?
  10. Did it change what you would choose?
  11. With or without changes to the two worksheets, do you think the product mix of the 12 products would be a good mix?
  12. Explain in detail using same criteria as in Part 1
    Assignment Part 3:
Using the same workbook, and leaving or restoring the original resources in the Human Resources and Machines worksheets, manipulate the data in the table below the product bid table in terms of delivery dates from suppliers and shipping to customers.
  13. What did you change and why?
  14. How might being able to plan for different delivery dates help the Operations Manager?
  15. Thinking from a Supply Chain and supplied material perspective
  16. Thinking from a shipping perspective
  17. As an example, we might deliberately choose to ship a product on time or even late with expediting. This will affect our costs and gross margin but it may also allow us to bring in far more profit dollars. It will affect our reputation. However, knowing the material costs are planned at their maximum, maybe we can make up the added shipping costs by material cost savings.
  18. Remembering how we scheduled products through the factory in a previous exercise, would it be possible to change our capabilities?
