Power relations between health and social care professionals

When referring to the power relations
between health and social care professionals
and disabled people, French writes: “. . . it is
an unequal relationship with the professionals
holding most of the power. Traditionally
professional workers have defined, planned
and delivered the services, while disabled
people have been passive recipients with little
if any opportunity to exercise control.” (1994:
103)
