Postcolonial text

How can we define a postcolonial text? Is it enough to say it is writing from or about countries that were once colonized or are there significant distinctions that separate it from other forms of writing? As we journey into the textual analysis of this form, we must first define for ourselves the terminology for our discourse, the language we are speaking in this class. Write an essay in which you explore and discuss any of the texts we have examined in class so far as an example of the postcolonial genre. You will need to work very closely with the text itself. You will need to carefully document what you think the characteristics of postcolonial writing are by citing examples from the text. Choose a passage or passages to discuss in close reading. What does the author of the work do and how does she or he do it? Do you notice certain patterns? Are there common themes and/or objectives? These are some questions you can explore through this essay.
