Topics
(1) On p. 60 of the Enquiry, Hume discusses an example of a prisoner who contemplates escaping from prison. What point is he trying to make by means of this example?
(2) In the course of your discussion, make sure you explain Hume’s conceptions of causation and free will, making very clear what aspects are particularly relevant to the example.
(3) Consider one or two objections to Hume’s views using this example or variants of the example.
