Philosophy

Write a 350 words high level reflection on the lecture material and readings (Joshua D. Greene: ‘The Secret Joke of Kant’s Soul’, in Walter Sinnott-Armstrong (ed.), Moral Psychology, Volume 3: The Neuroscience of Morality, (Cambridge: MIT Press, 2008), pp. 35-80), and to draw connections with other units studied in philosophy.
-reflect on the knowledge acquired through the study of philosophy, skills developed through the program of study, and philosophical values.

Discuss the following questions:
What are your intuitions about the Trolley dilemma, Footbridge dilemma, Loop case and the Crying baby dilemma cases? What if the numbers involved changed from 5 to 5,000,000? Does that change your intuitions? Why? What sort of moral principles seem to be implied by your intuitions about the above cases? How strong are these?
Is Greene’s claim that deontological moral theory is a mere rationalisation of primitive alarm-type emotions plausible? How could a deontologist respond to Greene’s account?
What can neuroscience and social psychology tell us about morality and moral theory? Can science decide moral questions?

A sample of reflection is attached. Feel free to add more creative elements. For example, link to artworks or other images, cartoons etc, that had connections with the topics, as well as references to articles from philosophy, other disciplines, or media etc.
