Personal Solid Waste Audit and Reduction Plan

Objectives: One of the most controversial, yet hidden, but critical issues in environmental planning today is “solid waste management”. We are also observing how the terrestrial and aquatic landscape is changing due to litter and waste being dumped in the oceans. The key to sustainability is to reduce our “waste footprint”. We will examine the composition of waste and packaging eco-logo claims of “municipal solid waste” produced as a result of your personal lifestyle (one third of solid waste is packaging). Through a Waste Reduction Work-plan, we will examine methods that could significantly reduce waste quantities going to disposal, thereby reducing personal contributions to waste.
