Instructions:

Create a statement of personal health philosophy
Create a statement of professional health education and promotion philosophy
Statements cannot be one word answers, please provide thorough, well-thought out responses
In creating a Personal Health Philosophy, consider:
creating your own definition of health
the purpose of health
the role of health in your own life
Complete the statement: “The purpose of health is to…”
Example: The purpose of health is to balance my own physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual health. I want to strive to live in a way that optimizes my own individual wellness, and to stay away from health damaging behaviors. Wellness is a way of life, and a lifestyle I design to achieve my highest potential for wellbeing. By reflecting on my own health behaviors, I would like to commit to more consistent physical activity (physical), carving out more time with family (social) and to implement some stress reduction techniques into my daily life, like yoga or meditation (mental/spiritual).
In creating a Professional Health Education and Promotion Philosophy, consider:
the predominant health education philosophies
definitions of health education
benefits of health education
limitations of health education
responsibilities of a health educator
Complete the statements:
“The purpose of health education is to…”
“Thus far, I believe health education…”
Example: The purpose of health education is to help individuals achieve balance in all areas of life, including physical, mental, social, spiritual, and emotional. Thus far, I believe health education helps people improve their lives and to inform them about new health findings. I intend to lead by example and practice the methods that I preach. I plan on providing information that people need, but not forcing them to change. I feel it is important to provide information so people can make their own informed decisions. My mission as a health educator is to focus on prevention and prepare people for the future. I want to impact lives in a positive way and help people change for the better.
