Use two art work to asking the question
Questions that will give your paper structure:
-How do you address an artwork? In other words, what is your foremost criteria, or interest, or curiosity when viewing art?
What do you look for or want from the experience?
-How was the work constructed? Does it have its own history or sense of research? Can you determine the process, and describe the ultimate structure?
-Do the materials used suggest a personal symbolism, a psychological or narrative context, or a historical or political reference?
-What are the implications/connotations of using the chosen materials - that is, what kind of unspoken weight or meaning do they carry? How was it built and why?
-Do you sense there is a hierarchy or value system iinvolved according to art topics or disciplines? That is, is a painting regarded as more significant than a photograph? Is it more important that the artist hand is at work in the piece and not indirectly manufactured?
-In what way does “recontextualization” play a part in the work? By that I mean, has the artist given new meaning to an object or image?
-Do you feel manipulated?
-Is the artist's idea visible or hidden? Is there a message or point of view?
-What are the associations that come to mind, if any, that have to do with nature, society, history, individual or global politics, or the memory of an individual?
-Does the work have a title, and if so, how is that title important in conveying the perspective of the artist within the context of the work?
-Are you predisposed to look for beauty and how would you define that?
-Should the viewing of the art be work or self-evident?
-What do you notice first, and does it change from art work to art work?
What, if any, is the importance of the placement of the work in relationship to environment of the gallery and other works included or excluded there.
