Opportunity for All and Title IX When President Richard Nixon signed into law the Education Amendments Act in 1972, no one anticipated its impact on women’s participation in college sports (Ware, 2015). The act sought to redress the imbalance in educational opportunity, though it is most remembered for Title IX, which sought equal opportunities in sports (Ware, 2015). It has had a number of unintended results, including fewer women coaching women’s teams but many more college women participating in sports (Ware, 2015).
