Description
Write a 3-page paper in which you conduct a close textual analysis of one "mainstream" community website. This may be an organization, a city, even a country. Whatever you choose, you must focus on the community representation. Consider the website that the community has generated itself, since you will better be able to concentrate on how it chooses to represent itself.
The specific online community I joined and viewed was a Facebook group that was for Moms. This was different for me because I am not a mom and not expecting so this is not a community I normally would join. The group was called I would just like to publicly announced that I have no idea what I'm doing. The group was fun, engaging and inspiring to witness. It opened my eyes to several biases I did not think about when thinking about becoming a mom such as being shamed for wanting to work full time or when you have to leave a meeting early for soccer practice and recieve looks from the single employees. Moms admit in this group that they get judged by others moms too--sometimes more harsly than non moms. Moms that think there is a perfect way to raise your child. This facebook group offered support and encourage moms by sharing other experiences, recipes and fellowship.
