Nursing Education

Purpose
The purpose of this activity is for the student to gain experience in developing course goals and outcomes for a curriculum.
Directions
Explore the different types of nursing curriculum maps: course, program, college/university, or institution. Select a nursing educational program of your
interest for mapping.
The curriculum map should be an extension of the mission and philosophy of the organization. This curriculum map should reflect how you would develop a
curriculum based your course learning outcomes.
Determine the timeframe for the educational program curriculum (quarterly, semesters or yearly) to be covered.
Identify applicable state nursing standards or educational standards and regulations that support the learning outcomes, objectives, and courses selected.
The map should reflect the sequencing of course material in the program. For example, courses that are correctly aligned permit faculty to quickly assess
what courses student will need to take over the life of the program.
In a narrative, discuss how the learning outcomes and learning objects were selected. Link the progression of knowledge and skills learned in the courses.
Explain how the map can be used to communicate curriculum content and evaluation. Discuss potential aspects of the curriculum that will have difficulty
achieving learning outcomes.
