1. Show how to efficiently evaluate the polynomial p(x) = x 73 − 6x 43 + x 17 − x 9 − 6. How many multiplications are used in your algorithm? 2. Show that the 2,2 Pad´e approximant for ln(1 + x) is R2,2 = 3x 2 + 6x x 2 + 6x + 6 . Compare the values of ln 2, R2,2(1) and T4(1), where T4(x) is the fourth degree Taylor polynomial for ln(1 + x). 3. Use the algorithm e u = s + u s − u where s = 2 + u 2 2520 + 28u 2 15120 + 420u 2 + u 4 to evaluate e 1/10 = e 0.1 . Do all your calculations using truncation at the 3th decimal place. Repeat this using round-off in the 3rd decimal place. Compare your results to the calculator result
