The purpose of conducting a needs assessment is to define the concepts (data elements) that will be needed
for a database model. Determining the needs of the users will help define the structures and concepts of the
database.
In Week 1, you reviewed the systems that nurses are currently using to manage patient care and nursing
processes. In Week 2, you will begin the process of modeling a database management system (DBMS) by
identifying a need and purpose for a database that is related to a health outcome or indicator.
