Music

  Music assignment is to assess your ability to identify & describe various elements of music in a piece of music that you are already very familiar with. In this unit, we have been discussing and listening to music in terms of 8 specific elements of music: melody, harmony, rhythm, form, timbre, texture, word/music relationship and dynamics. For this assignment, you are to take an .mp3 or .m4a of the song you have chosen (again, one that you know very well) and open it in either GarageBand (if you have a Mac) or Audacity (which is a free, open-source audio editing program available for both Windows and Mac at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.). I will go over in class how to use these programs for this assignment. You will then create a voiceover commentary where you speak about a number of the elements of music in this piece, identifying and characterizing them. You don't have to talk about all 8 of them, but your grade will be based to some degree on how many of them you address and in what detail. Also, it is important that you use musically-correct terminology while doing so.
