Your book states that Theory Z management is combination of Theory X and Y management. How is this so? Explain how Theory Z differs from both and when it may be appropriate to implement.

Welcome to week 3!
Management theorist Douglas McGregor introduced Theory X and Y.
William Ouchi researched cultural differences between the U.S. (Type A) and Japan (Type J).
Type J are committed to the organization and group.
Type A are focused on the individual.
Theory Z is the hybrid approach of Types A and J.
The above and below are taken from this week's PowerPoint slides and our text to aid in your responses to this week's discussion.
THEORY X
- Employees dislike work and will try to avoid it.
THEORY Y
- Employees view work as a natural part of life.
THEORY Z
- Employee involvement is the key to increased productivity.
- Employees prefer to be controlled and directed.
- Employees prefer limited control and direction.
- Employee control is implied and informal.
- Employees seek security, not responsibility.
- Employees will seek responsibility under proper work conditions.
- Employees prefer to share responsibility and decision making.
