Media & Popular Culture

a. Select any theoretical perspective we have discussed since your last assignment (structuralism, post-structuralism, post-modernism, feminism, critical perspectives on race; any author or concept since your last assignment due date). Pick an argument by a single author who interests you.

b. Summarize how the author argues we should study popular culture or culture more broadly. You may also pick a more specific argument advanced by the author, as long as you can make it converse with a contradictory point in another author's writings.

c. Explain the author's reasoning behind the argument, and some of the evidence they use to support it. Please provide direct textual evidence.

  1. (50pts)

a. Select a different perspective from a different author.

b. Respond to the first position from the perspective of that author's argument. What are the main points of disagreement? Why does it matter?

c. Again, please provide direct textual evidence.
