McDonaldization

(Rosery) McDonaldization have impacted markets on a global scale. McDonaldization essentially has changed the way we view animals and the way they are maintained in farms across the world. Due to the high demand of fast food restaurant chains like McDonald’s, suppliers have been forced to change the way animals we eat are grown. For example, the natural method of raising cattle has been traditionally to put them out to pasture and let them freely roam the land and eat the grass.
However, due to high demands cattle in many countries across the globe now are grown in facilities and rely on a fat heavy diet to mature them sooner so they are sold and given to many of these restaurants. These practices impact the people that produce our food since they are now ingesting chemicals and other medicines into these cattle and they are being paid less per cattle as opposed to raising them on a ranch. Although there are positives like bringing cattle to the market sooner and selling them at a cheaper rate, there are impacts that can be felt amongst local farmers since they are paid less to offer a product that is filled with chemicals.
In closing, while McDonaldization improves the profits and increases the availability of various goods, it reduces the variety of goods that we have available in the market. It is up to us (the consumers) to demand change and have these corporations implement methods that are ultimately healthier for our society as we continue to have advances in agriculture and technological sectors.
