Marriage and Family

Marriage and Family choose 5 internet sites on an issue of your choice dealing with Marriage and Family. You will be given a site that will help you evaluate websites since any Joe Blow can write their own opinion on the web. Your sites must be reputable sites. It is important that you follow the rubric exactly so that you do not lose points. For each website, I recommend that you number 1-8 corresponding to the rubric to ensure you do not leave anything out. 1) the correct URL 2) the correct author and/or source 3) a brief description of the scope and type of information contained in the reference 4) the main ideas/thesis of the author 5) the usefulness of the site to students and others in the field of sociology 6) apply one of the three major theories to the site and tell my how it applies. Simply stating that conflict theory applies does NOT satisfy this requirement. You must justify your choice by referring to the tenants of the paradigms 7)What is missing from this site? What should have been included? 8) How is this topic related to sociology?   Your annotated bibliography is worth 25% of your grade. How do I complete an annotated bibliography? Go to your favorite web browser and research 5 online websites that deal with a marriage and family research paper topic. (You are NOT writing a research paper here). You need to choose a topic that deals with marriage and family. Make sure you address every point in the rubric above for each of your 5 websites. Here is a website that tells you how to review a website. Use care in picking the 5 sites. Remember, any JOE BLOW can place a web site on the web. You are NOT looking for someone's personal opinion. APA must be used in your research paper. Visit these APA websites if you need help with APA (American Psychological Association) style when you write your annotated bibliography. http://www.apastyle.org/elecref.html http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/research/r_apa.html http://citationmachine.net/   If you are having trouble picking a topic, go to the index of your textbook and scan it until you find something of interest to you. Some examples of Marriage and family topics include adoption, divorice, incest, marital rape, step parenting, dating relationships, etc. You will pick a marriage and family topic, then research 5 internet sites on that topic and then address each of the 8 points in the grading rubric posted above and in the syllabus. Again, this is NOT a paper. The format should look something like this: Site 1. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Site 2 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Site 3 ETC. You address all 8 points in the rubric for each website you research.
