Manifesto

Hundertwasser published a number of manifestos in his life-time, ranging from the importance of shit to how
each individual should be allowed to plant trees IN their homes or apartments (even if they are only renting).
As briefly discussed in class, Hundertwasser's 5 skins are: your actual skin, your clothes, your house, your
identity, and the earth. Further, like the layers of an onion we are made up of many parts that create the whole.
Hundertwasser believed that without each layer we are not whole.
Your task for Friday's discussion class is to write a 300 word manifesto on your believes on one of the 5 skins.
In your manifesto you should note why your chosen skin should be regarded with respect and understood in
context of the important role it plays in the cycle of man's wholeness.
(To note, a manifesto is usually defined as a published declaration of the intentions, motives, or views of the
issuer, promoting a new idea with prescriptive notions for carrying out changes the author believes should be
made. It can be artistic in nature and may present an individual's life stance.)
Have a look at some of Hundertwasser's manifestos and draw inspiration from that. Like I said, your manifesto
does not need to be presented in a 300 word paragraph from, but can also take shape as a poem, a jazz song,
perhaps even a literary collage of sorts. In the spirit of Hundertwasser- reject conformity!
The aim of this exercise is to familiarise you guys more with Hundertwasser's ideas around the 5 skins and to
become more consciously aware of the cyclical nature of the world and the skins we inhabit around us. Please
consult the class slides for more info on the 5 skins, or just do a bit of research on your own.
