Making Dish Detergent in Factory Setting
Liquid dishwashing detergent is an important kitchen product occurring in form of sodium lauryl. The product exists either in sulfate and or linear alkylbenzene sulfonic acid such as anionic surfactant and sodium hydroxide (NaoH); depending on the adjusting of the pH and sodium for viscosity, dye for color and fragrance. Factories prepare detergents by obtaining a by-product ‘glycerol’ which is also used in making hand soaps. The ingredients of liquid detergents as produced in factory settings in their respective percentage are as follows; Surfactants (30-70%), plasticizers and binders (20-50%), lather enhancers (0-5%), fillers and binders (5-30%), water (5-12%), fragrance (0-3%), opacifying agents (0-0.3%) and dyes and pigments (<1%). The ingredients are mixed in large vats before being packaged. During my internship, I will learn how the process of dish washing detergent is made in a factory setting. The factory I am interning in, adopts the agglomeration method via manufacturing dish detergents.
Agglomeration process is commonly used in the production method in industries. Unlike the blender process, agglomeration is continuous, making it the best choice for larger detergent manufacturers. First, dry ingredients are fed into a large machine referred to as the Shuggi agglomerator. Inside the machine, the materials are mixed to a fine consistency through the use of sharp and whirling blades. After the blending of dry ingredients, liquid ingredients are spewed onto the dry mixture through the nozzles fitted into the agglomerator walls. As the mixing process takes place; reaction as a result of heat production. The resulting mixture is a hot, viscous liquid same as gelatin in liquid form. The liquid is then allowed to flow out of the agglomerator gathering and cool air blowers cool off the product while mixture is occurring leading up to the formation of a newly made detergent. The resulting product is a liquid detergent, pumped through a machine squirting it into big container ready to be sold.
