Local Theater Project

Theatre Practitioners need to be creative in a multitude of ways. Imagine you have a client coming to Houston
who wants to attend a play while they are here. Research three Houston area theatre venues or theatre
companies answering AT LEAST the prompt questions below about EACH of them and present your findings in
a report of 1000 words minimum total. Do not copy paste the questions and answer them, but restate and write
out your responses. Use at least three sources for each theatre company, and cite your sources using MLA,
APA, or the citation style with which you are most familiar. Do not think of this merely as a research paper, but
rather an opportunity for you to use your creativity to create an informative, eye-catching brochure. Think of the
brochure as a way to market these theatres like a product you may be selling to your client. Use visuals, color,
different types of formatting, etc. You will be graded not only on content and depth of research, but on the
overall presentation of your project.

1)What is the name of each theatre or theatre company? Where do they perform?
2)Is the theatre or theatre company professional or amateur?
3)What kind of plays do they produce? (new plays, classical, children’s theatre, musicals, all?)
4)Who is the Artistic Director?
5)How many seasons have they been producing plays?
6)What are three of their past productions? Which would you want to attend? Why?
7)What kind of theatrical reviews of individual productions have they received in newspapers or other
publications? What do they say about the productions?
8)What do Yelp or Google reviews say about the theatres?
9)Has this theatre company received any rewards? If so what are they?
10)Do they have a season planned for 2020-2021? If so, what are two of the plays they have planned?
11)Why do you like this theatre company? Would you recommend a play by this theatre company? Why or why
not?
12)How much are tickets?
13)How do they finance their seasons?
