Background: Mechanical ventilator is a lifesaving medical instrument that is widely used in critical care settings. It temporarily replaces mechanical function of the
lungs to inhale air. There are different types of mechanical ventilators in the market classified by mode of operation and application.
You group must accomplish the following tasks for the project,
- Understand the basic operating principle of mechanical ventilation. Identify each component of a ventilator and its role in the ventilation process. Which physical
parameters are modulated and what are the input/output signals of the system.
- Conduct a literature search for reported linear system model of ventilators and choose one to simulate output for a given input signal.
- Use the model to simulate the ventilator system for two physiologically relevant inputs to obtain the output
