Languages and translations and also gun germs and steel

#1 Why is it so difficult to translate precisely from one language to another? Read the text box entitled
"Cross-Cultural Miscue" on page 143 of Chapter 6, "Language and Communications". Then identify and define
at least one concept or term from Chapter 6 and show how it can help the three businesses in the story
understand what they did wrong and avoid the mistakes in the future. You may want to consider the following
questions: What wrong assumptions were made about languages and the translation of the slogans? How do
social situations in daily life change the way people communicate even between people who speak the same
language? What are different cultural aspects are involved in speech? You can use examples from the
textbook, the class lecture or the activity.

five food production strategies to make his point. Do you agree with him? Your answer must include definitions
of each of the food strategies, the descriptions of the scenes from the film and how each changed the lives of
humans.
