Find a newspaper, web, or magazine news item (within the last six months) that illustrates a facet of juvenile justice that interests you. For example, juvenile diversion, conservative or liberal approach to delinquency prevention, detention/incarceration reform, alternatives to detention/incarceration, racial and ethnic disparities, etc.
When writing the report, include the following:
• State the news source, date, article's title, author, and main point first, followed by the arguments, supporting details, and conclusions. Know the relevant information.
• When summarizing the author, paraphrase and refrain from using the author's words. If you must quote the author, use quotation marks and note which page the quotation comes from. Properly cite your sources in a references section.
• Do not simply make a list. Your summary should read with the ease of solid prose, using concrete nouns and verbs and clear sentences to tell the brief story of the article.
• After you have summarized the item, discuss the issue's impact on the juveniles affected.
