Introduction to Design

Aim Produce a set of 2D-CAD drawings to national standards (BS8888). The Coursework assesses students’ skills of learning outcomes 1 Communicate technical information via manual and computer aided techniques with sketches, detail and assembly drawings. 2 Use design tools to produce a conceptual model. Scenario From the design specification you are required to produce a detail drawing for each part with all manufacturing data and an assembly drawing with parts list. Dimensions not shown must be in good proportion, use preferred sizes and maintain function. Task You are required to complete an assembly drawing with balloon references; parts list and detail drawings for all the parts. You will find full details in the design specification. All drawings must comply with BS 8888 for mechanical engineering technical drawings. All supporting materials, presentations, standards and tutorials are on Moodle and K drive. Submission Requirements You should submit a full set of printed CAD drawings with AutoCAD 2015 files on a CD (and your name, number and submission date clearly marked on the CD). The complete set of drawings should be presented in a transparent document wallet with a coursework front sheet clearly showing student reference number to the programme office. Marking Scheme ? Assembly drawing: 40% (including balloon references and parts list, selection of the necessary views, use of sections) ? Detailed drawings of BASE, LEVER, POINTER and PIN: 50% (selection of the necessary views, use of sections, dimensioning, appropriate use of the line types) ? Tolerances: 10% (dimensional and geometrical tolerances, surface roughness, general requirements) Student Input Approx. 12 hours Coursework to be submitted to the ENG Counter Last day for Submission 24 July 2015 You may hand course work in any time up to a week before this date 2014-15 Page 3 of 2 Design Specification The base should be 100mm wide and 130mm long and have 4 holes of 10mm diameter. The pin diameter should be 10mm. All not given radii are 5mm. Attention: this sketch is not to British Standards. BASE LEVER POINTER
