Consider the breadth of information shared in this Transitions to Engineering course. Take some time to reflect upon the prompts below:
- How have the perspectives of alumni influenced your approach to engineering problem solving and dedication to degree completion? What was the most interesting nugget of knowledge that they shared that will likely stick with you after graduation? Why will you take it with you?
- What topic did you already have some knowledge, but greater detail was added from either an external speaker or the instructor? Describe how the details helped complete your understanding while also identifying those aspects that remain unknown. Where will you seek information to fill the gaps?
- Describe additional topic(s) that can be added to the content covered that would help someone at your status (i.e. graduating senior, transfer student taking first steps at NIU, etc) along with mechanisms to effectively measure whether that information is retain (i.e. what questions would you have in the homework).
4.Finally, summarize how engineering isn't exclusively about the technical knowledge that is gained through curricular study, but instead engineering is about persistence of accomplishments while integrating soft skills with the technical knowledge you are learning. Identify how your dedication to persistence has been affected while hearing about the success stories from alumni and the other positive aspects of engineering as a profession.
