Try to relate your questions to this course and your major. Example:
The following is a list of the chapters in our course. I’ve highlighted some key chapters where you should draw
inspiration to develop questions that pertain to concepts therein. If you want to get some feedback about
your proposed questions, post your ideas for interview in your “Team Area (Groups)” section where I
designated a thread for that purpose of sharing interview ideas. You can comment on each other’s’ ideas and
I will also give you some feedback if I see you have posted there (optional).
So, given the example above in terms of how you might word questions and consider follow-up prompts, you
might look at the contents of our book and PA 380 course next to develop your questions relative to the
course and also your interests, expertise of the professional and the nature of your major and the career field.
I’ve shown you below, in red, some ideas you might consider, adapt and inquire about. You are to take it from
here and make your own set of questions now - not restricted or limited to my suggestions – these ideas in red
are just to get you thinking!

“In my Public Administration course, we discuss the issue of ethics in public service –
especially as related to public trust expectations and transparency. I’m particularly
interested in this field of public health where you are a public administrator. Have you had
any specific, relatable experience(s) which might reinforce the importance of ethics as
applied to public administration?”
Follow up – in the event your professional needs further prompting, you might add
examples and say, “For example, maybe you’ve had experience with concerns over public
money matters, funding sources in question, conflicts of interest accusations, accountability
to or demands of the public for information or transparency?
If so, how did the organization overcome or address those issues?”

You are the gatherer of information from a practitioner who is sharing their personal experience as it relates
to any or all of the above topics that we study in PA 380. In the end, you are gathering this information about
real world experiences from the professional that you will relate in your final paper. After the interview, you
will compare and contrast the professional’s opinion to concepts in our text books and other scholarly
sources as the practitioner’s experience is either supported or contrasted by other subject matter experts in
academia (references). You will comment in your paper about what might account for any differences, based
on what you learn during the interview, the opinions of the expert you talk to, what’s in our text book and any
other references you may find on your own (research).
Be creative and personalize this to your interests!
