One of the most important internet privacy/safety policies, laws, or rules that I would like to change or create is the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). COPPA was enacted in 1998 to protect the privacy of children under the age of 13. The law requires websites and online services that collect personal information from children to obtain parental consent before doing so. However, COPPA has not kept pace with the evolution of the internet. Today, children are using social media, online gaming, and other platforms that were not even in existence when COPPA was passed. These platforms collect a wide range of personal information from children, including their names, addresses, phone numbers, and even their photos. I believe that COPPA needs to be updated to reflect the realities of the modern internet. The law should be expanded to cover all platforms that collect personal information from children, and it should give parents more control over the data that is collected about their children. In addition to updating COPPA, I would also like to see the creation of a new law that would protect the privacy of all internet users. This law would require websites and online services to obtain consent from users before collecting their personal information. The law would also give users the right to access and correct their personal information, and it would prohibit websites from selling or sharing personal information without the user's consent. I believe that these changes would help to protect the privacy of internet users, especially children. They would also help to create a more transparent and accountable internet. Arguments in Favor of Changing or Creating This Policy, Law, or Rule There are a number of arguments in favor of changing or creating this policy, law, or rule. First, the internet has become an essential part of our lives, and we deserve to have our privacy protected when we use it. Second, children are especially vulnerable to privacy violations on the internet, and they need special protection. Third, the current laws and policies are not adequate to protect our privacy, and they need to be updated. Arguments Against Changing or Creating This Policy, Law, or Rule There are a few arguments against changing or creating this policy, law, or rule. First, some people argue that it would be too burdensome for websites and online services to comply with new privacy regulations. Second, some people argue that these regulations would stifle innovation on the internet. Conclusion I believe that the benefits of changing or creating this policy, law, or rule outweigh the costs. We deserve to have our privacy protected on the internet, and children especially need special protection. The current laws and policies are not adequate to protect our privacy, and they need to be updated.
