International Logistics Services

International Logistics Services
Introduction
ILS has completed the acquisition of a logistics firm. The factory is located near Walmart, and the corporation wants to acquire Walmart's business. The previous business left many issues for ILS to address, including safety concerns in 2018. The prior logistics business experienced 13 warehouse-related lost time incidents. Two serious incidents occurred while transferring merchandise to a customer's facility, resulting in huge electricity expenditures. There was evidence of energy waste (lights were left on after hours), the warehouse was disorderly, the equipment was obsolete, the personnel was not appropriately educated, the turnover rate was 25% last year before the purchase, and procedures were not recorded. The charter's key objectives are to address the difficulties described above and guarantee that ILS earns Walmart's business in Peru by displaying the same world-class customer service ILS is internationally known for.
This charter is restricted to the information given by the prior logistical provider. Additionally, the project's budget was set at $500,000, of which $400,000 was set aside for the firm's purchase. Additionally, ILS has earmarked $100,000 to address existing challenges. The project's projected duration is between one and two years. ILS's first concern would be safety. It is critical to the business's performance, and the first step is to choose a safety sponsor who will teach and develop workers' safety competencies. ILS will also include six weeks of refresher driving school for existing drivers and 12 weeks for all new drivers as part of the safety instruction. ILS must minimize its power expenses. We will install automated motion sensors that switch off lights after business hours. This will lower costs and boost profitability.
Project Scope Statement:

  1. Overview:
International Logistics Services (ILS) is one of the world's major air freight forwarders for home products. The corporation is now working on a project to address certain concerns with the facility they just bought. The project's purpose is to protect the environment. Walmart, as well as other Peruvian firms, are working to resolve these challenges. ILS will also organize a project team to help identify answers to the continuing issues by expanding the number of people involved (Parks, 2019). Enhancing overall performance and efficiency in the warehouse to improve customer satisfaction via effective associate training and waste reduction to limit the number of incidents inside the new structure The project must be finished in 11 months and at no more than $100,000.
  2. Project's Requirements:
    • Obtain Walmart business by planning and doing the study.
    • Prioritize staff training in all warehouse areas to improve overall performance and productivity.
    • Reduce the use of worn-out equipment to reduce the number of accidents.
    • Conduct safety training for each specific location to ensure compliance with the requirements.
    • Install sensor lights to save energy by turning them off automatically after hours.
  3. Project Deliverables
    • Project management deliverables:
Charter, scope statement, communications management strategy, requirements documentation, work breakdown structure (WBS), risk management plan, quality metrics, and final project presentation are project management deliverables.
    • Deliverables associated with the project:
     Instruction & Safety Instruction
 Purchase of new machinery and equipment
     Precautionary measures
     Install motion-activated lights.
  4. Limitations
    • The number of clients has decreased.
    • Restrictions on the arrival cycle and the evaluation process
    • There is no certainty about the lead periods for equipment orders.
    • A new operating and development environment has been created.
  5. Change Management Procedures
It is necessary to purchase voice-enabling technology for workers to interact efficiently with one another. Because this technology can be deployed across all departments, it has the potential to improve performance and productivity while improving inventory management and expediting the receipt and shipment of orders.
  6. Work Breakdown Structure, Network Diagram, and Schedule
  7. The Approach to Leadership
The affiliative leadership method is a fantastic leadership strategy that the project management team should utilize. This method is the most effective for building connections in the workplace, particularly when trust isn't existent anymore. Because of the high number of workplace accidents, we must guarantee that our workers feel secure and that they can put their faith in our leadership team. This strategy will aid in the formation of that link, which will be particularly beneficial during times of stress when teammates are recovering from a traumatic event or when the team is attempting to restore trust.
  8. A Human Resources-Oriented Strategy
The project's Human Resource department will be primarily concerned with hiring qualified team members who will contribute to achieving the project's objectives. They will be primarily responsible for procedures such as organizing, managing, and leading the project team (Collier & Evans, 2019)
  9. Waste management and cost-cutting measures to be implemented
Use reusable items (such as plates, cups, and bowls) in the warehouse kitchen and canteen. Implement energy-saving sensors in warehouse lighting fixtures. Establish regulations that promote environmentally friendly practices in the workplace.
    • Identify possible risks
    • evaluate and appraise prospective risks
    • assign accountability for each potential risk
    • develop preemptive remedies.
    • Keep a close eye on potential dangers.
  10. Risk Management Plan
The hazards linked with the construction of the new warehouse have already been recognized and addressed. There have been several mishaps involving worn-out equipment at the warehouse, which have resulted in shipments being delivered later than expected (Dandage et al., 2018). Because of this, we must develop safety policies and procedures that will protect and promote the well-being of our employees (Kloppenborg et al., 2019). Purchasing new equipment and disposing of old equipment will also help to minimize the number of accidents that occur, increase the effectiveness of the risk management strategy and lessen the dangers in and around the warehouse itself. These specific responsibilities have already been assigned to the team leaders.
  11. Methodology for ensuring high-quality outcomes
Customers' satisfaction should be the number one priority to ensuring that the company produces high-quality results. To improve customer happiness, we must guarantee that performance and productivity in the warehouse are both improved at the same time. It is hoped that the training provided to our colleagues will contribute to this improvement. Because of this, deliveries will be made on schedule, enhancing customer satisfaction.
  12. Managing Change Control
    • Defining the goal of the change process.
    • To attain that goal, you must have a strategy and plans.
    • We are establishing a project management group to oversee the implementation of the change.
    • We are putting in place a control procedure to keep track of progress.
    • We manage the project by putting the four phases listed above into action.
Overall, the project has been split into smaller components, and team leaders have already been appointed to each job, each with a particular deadline for completing their respective tasks. The project's primary emphasis is on developing and executing a standard training program for all of the company's personnel. This training will cover the management of warehouse equipment, inventory organization, maintenance, and basic activities such as regular cleaning responsibilities, among other things. It will also emphasize the importance of safety standards for each colleague (Henryk et al., 2018). Another important requirement for this project is the development of safety rules, which will help to reduce the number of accidents that occur in the warehouse. Aside from the incidents themselves, it has been shown that the equipment employed by colleagues is the primary cause of these mishaps as well. Also necessary is the replacement of old or inefficient equipment. It should always be a top priority for the company to get rid of old, worn-out equipment to ensure all employees' safety.
