Initial Client Assessment

As Zubernis and Snyder (2016) indicated, "The counselor begins to develop a framework to explain the
etiology of the problem" (p. 43). In this assignment, let us start with identifying some of the components of

a counseling case conceptualization. If you have not done so already, read the course project information

and the case scenario. Complete the following as they relate to the information contained in the case

scenario:

  1. Identify the presenting issue and the specific client from the case scenario provided.
  2. Identify one or two client features or issues that are influencing the client’s functioning and that would
potentially warrant further assessment, including a rationale for further assessment.
  3. Describe how these features or issues are influencing the client’s functioning and why it is important to
administer an assessment for this area of functioning.
  4. Ensure there is evidence in the case scenario to support the need for further assessment.
  5. Identify and describe at least two client strengths and two vulnerabilities, based on the information in

the case scenario.

  1. Identify and evaluate information and/or documentation needed for the case conceptualization and
subsequent development of a treatment plan, and an advocacy plan for the client.
  2. Provide a description of the information needed and/or documentation to conceptualize the client’s

case fully.

  1. Provide an evaluation of how this information or documentation would be pertinent in the development

of a treatment plan and an advocacy plan for the client.
