Project 1: Process Improvement – Each student will be required to identify an industrial process to improve. The student will analyze that process, map how it is being done now and suggest ways to make that process more sustainable. Preferably each student will select a process with which they are already familiar or which they would like to understand better.
- Project 1: Introduction to Project 1. : Choose an industrial process to analyze with approval of instructor.
- Discuss industrial process. Review process maps.
- Locate where energy and materials are utilized in the process? Where does pollution occur in the process? Add these to your maps.
- Metrics for industrial process; how much energy, materials, pollution occur in the process? (at least in orders of magnitude) Prepare a sustainability improvement plan.
