importance of not relying on a single narrative/story

In her Ted Talk, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie talked about the importance of not relying on a single narrative/story—that is, one stereotype—to understand a community of people. Based on the three plays we’ve studied, what can be understood about the experience of the African American? Your essay should consider what complexities are portrayed in the three plays? What stories are missing, if any? Your essay should not analyze the characters in the play, but analyze what aspects of African American culture are represented by the characters in Emperor Jones, The Piano Lesson, and Dutchman. All three plays must be used (you do not have to use every character in Piano Lesson), citing specific quotes with correct in-text citations. I encourage you to use the stage directions, too. Your essay should have an engaging introduction, a clear thesis, well-organized supporting paragraphs, and an interesting conclusion that does not simply repeat what you just wrote.
