Discussion 6
- Watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6GDcBf_IjY from Netflix. The link goes to a short trailer, but you are expected to watch the whole documentary. If you have a Netflix account, you should be able to find and view this documentary. If you don't have Netflix, you likely have a groupmate who does and this is the perfect time to schedule an in-person meeting. Your third option for finding this documentary is ordering from your local or the UW libraries- although I don't believe they offer it in a streaming format.
- After you have watched the documentary, identify a country of your choice. This may be a low or middle-income country (Links to an external site.) OR a high-income country. THIS CAN BE THE SAME COUNTRY YOU'VE CHOSEN PREVIOUSLY OR A NEW ONE, based on your interest- are you interested in specializing in a specific region or to learn about various countries?). https://blogs.worldbank.org/opendata/new-country-classifications-income-level-2018-2019
- Briefly research the penal system (this may include jail, prison, jail-diversion programs, policing practices, etc.) with a focus on the country you chose.
In the discussion post:
- Share the country you selected and why
- Share the type of system/s in place and how it connects with other systems
- Based on the documentary you viewed and your required readings for week #6 (see your week 6 module), share your suggestion for what should be done to strengthen the health of the population in your chosen country and related to the particular system you chose- this might be a policy (think law), a behavioral intervention, program, etc.
