Order Description Essay questions are based on chapters 9-16 in the textbook(American Promise). All answers should be submitted together in a single word processing document. Only direct quotes need to be cited, requiring only the author's last name in parenthesis, outside sources(books, websites, etc.)may also be used, but in this case all information must be cited and must be listed in a bibliography(or works cited) at the end of the essay. Be sure to cite any direct quotes and list any outside sources after your answers. Essay questions: 1. Why is George Washington considered to be one of the United States greatest presidents? In your answer, be sure to consider the times, his personal qualities, and his legacy. How and why does Washington live on in the American memory? 2. Describe and explain Alexander Hamilton's three-part economic program for the new nation, and analyze the success of each of the three components. To what extent do you think Hamilton's vision of American has prevailed? 3. Analyze the presidential election of 1800 in respect to the candidates, issues, campaign, and results. Why was a peaceful transfer of power significant in American history? 4. Describe and explain why Thomas Jefferson looked to the West to fulfill his vision of America. How did he attempt to assure that the West would be accessible? What effects did movement to the West have on Americans Indians and the question of slavery? 5. Describe and explain the causes and consequences of the war of 1812. How did the war affect American Indians, the Federalist Party, and the relationship between the United States and Great Britain?
