posts by adding additional support to a colleague?s perspective or by introducing a different
perspective on the colleague?s environmental scan findings and SWOT Analysis. In addition, explain
whether you agree with the colleagues? decisions to adapt or not adapt their technology goals.
Original Technology Goal:

Purchase, upgrade and enhance technology resources on the Grand City University campus to execute
the five-year plan, supporting the institution?s new Science, Technology, Engineering and
Mathematic (STEM) programs by providing industrial resources which aim to enhance student learning
in the field.
As I conducted the environmental scan, I found my technology goal was loosely aligned with what
Grand City University leadership seeks. My goal aimed to increase student participation in STEM
education programs with the use of enhanced technology to support the new programs. My
environmental scan revealed the importance of embracing technology as a means of communication,
support and innovative education (Laureate Education, 2016b). Though there may be precautionary
measures that some are fearful of when implementing new technology, the result will likely be
beneficial for the institution.
One of the most important things I learned while conducting the environmental scan is how important
many people view technology and staying current with changes in technology. Dr. Amari serves as the
Director of Diversity at Grand City University, and he noted that GCU serves the students by
utilizing technology to its maximum potential and training faculty to utilize these new resources,
as needed (Laureate Education, 2016b). From a different and significant perspective, Dr. Haddix
serves as the Dean of Learning at GCU. He believes that technology is changing the face of
teaching, learning and research in education and wishes to develop innovative courses that will
enhance learning. However, many are not in agreement.
Hindering the process are those, much like the Registrar at the Alabama College of Osteopathic
Medicine and those Dr. Haddix suggested, who are hesitant about changes in technology and
implementing these types of goals into the strategic plan. ACOM prides itself on providing the most
innovative technology (The ACOM Difference, 2014), but they take precautionary measures when
prompted to prevent data breaches and incidents that could be detrimental due to enhanced
technology. For this reason, there are a multitude of Information Systems representatives on duty
24/7 for students, faculty and staff. Dr. Haddix suggests getting everyone on the same page prior
to incorporating the technology goal so everyone can work together as a team. This will be an
effective way to implement innovative change (Buller, 2015, p. 39).
Still focusing on increasing participation in STEM programs at GCU, the revised technology goal is
as follows: Purchase, upgrade and enhance technology resources ? defined as any equipment and/or
software deemed necessary for educational purposes - on the Grand City University campus to execute
the five-year plan, supporting the institution?s new Science, Technology, Engineering and
Mathematic (STEM) programs which aim to enhance student learning, faculty instruction and
institutional standing on a competitive level.
