Heart disease is the leading cause of death

• Problem: Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men, women, and people of most racial and ethnic groups in the United States. One person dies every 34 seconds in the United States from cardiovascular disease.
• Causes: Eating more meat, especially red meat and processed meat, is linked to a higher risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease - a 22% higher risk for about every 1.1 serving per day.
• Solution: In my speech, I would like to propose that children from an early age should be exposed to a plant-based diet in schools. Since we develop life-long habits in school, children can be taught to reach for nutritious vegetables instead of processed, unhealthy and animal-based items thus benefiting the future of their health.
