  Competency: 302-6: Describe the professional organizations and disciplines central to Health Informatics Although Health Informatics is a relatively new field, it has already been subdivided into several distinct disciplines, and a number of professional organizations have emerged to serve individuals within those disciplines- In this competency you will read about the evolution of Health Informatics and take a look at some of the disciplines and professional organizations that exist within the field-     Look at the list of Health Informatics related disciplines in Box 1-8 on page 13 of Nelson and Staggers- Choose a discipline that appeals to you from that list- Write a 400 to 500 word essay, including the following information: A description of the discipline Why does the discipline appeal to you? Which professional organization(s) might someone in this discipline be likely to join? Why? Within this discipline, what opportunities are there for continuing education and professional development? How does this discipline relate to at least 2 of the other disciplines mentioned in Box 1 -8?
