Geothermal

  1. Hot liquid water at 220oC enters a single flash geothermal plant. After the throttle valve, the pressure is 600 kPa and the flash tank separates the vapor from the liquid. The vapor drives a steam turbine with an isentropic efficiency of 89%. The turbine produces 10 MW of power and the condenser pressure is 20 kPa. The efficiency of both pumps is 72% and the pressure of the fluid must be raised to 4 MPa before the injection well. Determine:

a. The mass flow rate at the production well.

b. The rate of heat rejection from the condenser.

c. The power inputs to the two stages of pumps.

d. The overall efficiency of this plant (using the net work produced by the plant, output form the turbine minus pump work).
