Research Proposal Writing (Part 2): Gender Pay Gaps among Single Working Women
Part 2 requires you to write a research proposal (2,000 words), based on your assignment Part 1. The headings for your proposal are provided below. Organisation (approx. 100 words): Name and its main mission Research Question: 1-2 sentences only Executive Summary (approx. 100 words): A summary of the entire proposal Background and Significance (approx. 300 words): Explain the background of the problem and the circumstances that make it important. This section would include some references (academic & non-academic). Literature Review(approx.. 1,000 words): Based on your annotated bibliography and subsequent research, write a review of the literature in order to situate your proposed research in relation to existing scholarly works on the issue. A link to a literature review writing guide is provided on iLearn, under Assessment. Aims and Objectives (paragraph or two; up to 200 words): Identify your proposed project’s main aims and objectives. Method (approx. 300 words): Discuss your proposed research method (i.e. explain how you will go about generating your own data) and why and how it is suitable for your aims. References (not counted towards word limit): List all books, articles, reports, web sites etc cited in the proposal. You are expected to include more references than your annotated bibliography. The assessment criteria for Part 2 are: • Evidence of critical approach and persuasiveness of the argument (whole proposal) • Sensibleness and practicality of the research question • Succinctness of the executive summary • Relevance and appropriateness of the organisation • Importance and urgency of the problem identified (background and significance) • Successful synthesis of relevant scholarly ideas (literature review) • Appropriateness and feasibility of the research method (method) • Clarity and correctness of writing and referencing (style, tone, grammar, punctuation, spelling)
