A. How was such an inequitable class/CJ system created in the first place? (Requiem for the American Dream
will be very useful here as will the Hinton text). Thoroughly describe this to your audience. Remember, they
know almost nothing about this connection. Provide some historical content (again, the Hinton book).
B. How does this system get perpetuated? (The Edelman book will be good for this section). Provide clear
examples/cases including citations.
C. What possible solutions to this problem might be. By this point, you will have learned that socio-economic
class is absolutely a factor in who gets arrested, who is offered bail, how much that bail is, who gets
prosecuted under the harshest guidelines, and who gets a “slap on the wrist.” Your “solution” section will likely
come from the Edelman book.
D. What "principle/s" from Requiem for the American Dream do you see occurring even today? This might or
might not be part of your presentation to the group mentioned above but it might be used as a closing for your
presentation.
