Formation of an empire

In these first six chapters, you were introduced to many different societies and types of state systems. One of the biggest changes came beginning in Chapter Four with the first introduction and appearance of empires. What makes an empire different from other types of societies? Explain how those differences were demonstrated by the societies that you learned about in the last three chapters of this unit. Make sure to use specific examples in your answer.
