Film Review
The film review will consist of four separate components; summary, research, analysis and critique.
- The summary section will provide an outsider with a thorough description of the plot and storyline of the film.
Describe and summarize the film in this section. - The research component will locate the film in the relevant political, historical and/or social context. In this
section, explain what is happening in the world that informs what you see in the film. To do this, you must do
some digging (research) and find at least (2) two reliable information sources that you can use to explain the
context of the film. Be sure to cite these sources in a works cited page. - The analysis component will draw upon our class readings to critically relate major themes and ideas from
the reading to the content in the film. You must quote at least (2) specific examples from the readings to
support your analysis of the relationship between what we are reading and what we are watching. - The critique section is the section in which you get to play Siskel & Ebert. (Siskel & Ebert were two famous
movie critics. They were the precursor to Rotten Tomatoes, if you will.) In this section you have the freedom to
express your opinion of the film. You can rate the film, say what you did or did not like, what you would have
done differently, express if you would recommend this to a friend and why, etc.
The finished assignment should be 4-6 pages in length, double spaced, 1-inch margins, Times New Roman
12pt font, plus a works cited page.
The film is ( Harvest of the empire) which is at the same time our book that we were studying through out the
semester.
