You must include your evidence of PPD Binding: single staple at top left corner INTRODUCTION This unit has three core purposes: • to introduce you to learning at undergraduate level; • to orientate you within your course, the College and the University; • to induct you into the specific practices and knowledge base of your discipline. The unit will enable you to acquire and improve your skills, understanding and approaches to learning that underpin your studies in Stage 1, in your course as a whole, and beyond. Emphasis is placed on the skills needed to locate, navigate and communicate information effectively and appropriately. You will be introduced to resources that support your studies. LEARNING OUTCOMES ( MARKING CRITERIA ) Upon successful completion of this unit you will be able to demonstrate: 1. evidence of engagement with the principles and practices of your discipline ( research , analysis, subject knowledge, 2. an ability to locate and evaluate information from a range of written and/o r visual sources ( research, analysis, subject knowledge) ; 3. an ability to communicate ideas and arguments in academic forms appropriate to your discipline ( communication and present ation, personal and professional development ); 4. evidence of engagement with the principles of Personal and Professional Development (PPD) ( personal and professional development, collaborative and/or Independent professional working). ASSESSMENT METHODS The assessment for this unit is weighted. In element - based assessment, you must achieve at least an E grade in each element, and an aggregate grade of at least D - in the overall unit. Failure (F, or F - ) or non - submission in any element defaults to Fail for the unit. 1. An individual essay (1500 words); (50%) 2. A Collaborative Group presentation to peers and tutors; (30%) 3. An individual portfolio of selected activities from the PPD Coach online resource; (20%) Assessment will be against the specified marking criteria.
