A person shows up thinking that the perpetrator has to be in the line up” even after the detective states that “the perpetrator may or may not be in the lineup.” Then you do your best to pick the right person. And finally the detective may say, “you picked the same person in the photo and in the physical person lineup”. This statement is the misinformation effect or the wording effect on creating a false memory. Then you are sure that the person you picked is the perpetrator, when you are mistaken. After that comment we absolutely believe that we picked the right person when the real perpetrator wasn't even in the line up. Memory can be seriously influenced by words. Words do matter….
