Order Description Based on the topic you identified related to a bioethical issue (and the instructor pre-approved by the end of Week 1) prepare a 12-15 page research paper. The most important aspect of this paper is to cover the topic sufficiently, but please do not exceed 15 pages maximum if you can. The page count includes the citation/reference list but not the cover page. The paper is to be done in APA format (6th edition) so in-text citations as well as cover sheet, abstract, and reference list of primary sources are mandatory inclusions. Attention to correct spelling and grammar is an essential component of your grade. The paper should be of sufficient quality and detail that you would be proud to have it published. As with any research paper you should: A.) Present an abstract for the paper Briefly introduce the reader to the purpose of the paper B.) Provide a brief historical foundation of the topic (which includes an overview of some the authoritative literature (lit review) on this issue) C.) Provide the essence of the topic and its core bioethical issues Be sure to include ethical principle language: autonomy, beneficence, etc. Don’t forget – Nursing Implications (you can put this in its own section or include throughout the paper. D.) This paper will also include a scenario (real or imagined) presented within the paper similar to a case study. This part of the paper is a good place to put it. Scenario guidelines: Paragraph One of case presentation: Presentation of the scenario with its paramount ethical issue highlighted along with the ethical principles involved. There should be at least two possible solutions to the dilemma. Dilemma participants will be presented (patient, physician, nurse(s), ethics committee members, hosp. admin, etc.) and the primary players given a “voice”. What they said or would say about the situation and their thoughts on the situation. Paragraph Two of case presentation: This section will present a recognized ethical decision-making process (found through research) that was or could be used to resolve the dilemma. Provide a brief description of the process and describe how the process would be used or was used to resolve the dilemma. Back to the main part of the research paper: E.) Review any political movements/activity related to the topic The potential future evolution of the issue F.) The last paragraph should be an appropriate closing paragraph for the reader.
