Description
Please make sure you carefully read the instructions in the Syllabus and look at the grading rubric before you write your essay. Look also at the posted example essay.
I also wanted to answer a few questions that have arisen:
First, you choose ONE source from the list given in the discussion prompt and only write about your chosen one source. You have options in each category. Choose ONE category and ONE source within that category.
Second, each of the three paragraphs must have specific information:
In your first paragraph, answer these questions:
What source did you choose?
What kind of source is it?
Who wrote the source?
When was it written?
Why was it written?
In your second paragraph, answer these questions:
What is the main argument (i.e., the thesis) of the source?
What information does the source provide to support the argument being made?
Note that must have one quote (sentence typed out word for word inside quotation marks followed by properly formatted in-text citations) from the source that illustrates your analysis.
In your third paragraph, answer these questions:
What historical information presented in the Unit chapter readings (textbook) helps me better understand what was happening at the time this source was written?
What information from the readings helps me better understand the person(s) and/or events discussed in the source?
Make sure your reference specific points in the textbook with properly formatted in-text citations.
End the essay with works cited citations (properly formatted MLA).
