Ethics is a critical part of organizations and society
Ethics
Ethics is a critical part of organizations and society. In this assignment, each student will individually write two ethical dilemmas and potential solutions to each dilemma. The dilemmas can be for society in general, for organizations or for research projects.
The assignment deliverable should describe the context and the dilemma in no more than 1 page. The solutions should have 4 different possible approaches to solve the dilemma. Each approach should be based on an ethical assumption about the stakeholders in the dilemma, for example, assumptions for a corporation, would be:
Stakeholder 1: strongly believes in capitalist concepts. He or she believes that the best thing any businessperson can do for society is to increase the profitability of their company. This person strongly believes in trickle down, meaning any profits will benefit all of society.
Stakeholder 2: believes that Employee Satisfaction is the most important goal of any business. Satisfied employees will work harder and have more innovative ideas, this will help any business succeed. Moreover providing people with engaging and satisfying work is a worthy pursuit in its own right.
Stakeholder 3: believes that the most important pursuit of a business is to be held in high regard by partners and customers. Awards, and excellence should be striven for.
Stakeholder 4: believes the organization should benefit Citizens and the Environment. Being recognized as such also leads to a monetarily successful company with happy partners and staff.
Note: that ethical solutions to a dilemma could be linked to more than 1 stakeholder.
To find ideas for ethical business dilemmas, consider reviewing business magazines, business news and websites. There are books discussing ethics in many libraries.
