Explain and evaluate at least one important ethical claim about one example of (a) an ethical issue about
business that is fundamental to the operation of a “free market economy”; OR (b) an ethical issue about
business that is fundamental to the rules that define what a for-profit corporation should be allowed or required
to do. Say what your own ethical view is about that issue, and give reasons or evidence for your view. Consider
at least one important ethical objection to your view and
how you would respond to it. You may, (but you are NOT required to), write the paper by reference to Phillip
Pettit.
To “evaluate” a claim is (roughly) to state whether the claim is true or false (or reasonable or unreasonable)
and to give reasoning and/or evidence to support your statement.
Explain and support your ethical views, when you express them, IN PART by reference to your own specifically
relevant individual experience, explicitly taking into account the advantages and limits of your specific range of
direct experiences, and your access to varied information sources, as well as your access (or lack of access) to
a sufficient range of ethical stances. Do (IN PART) “personalize” your answer by reflecting about your own
capabilities to address the ethical questions. But also aim to support your ethical views with reasoning and/or
evidence that should count with other reasonable persons, beyond yourself
