to prevent and treat them. As a nurse, you are charged with teaching patients how to prevent infectious
diseases and what to do if they become infected.
A powerful tool in your arsenal is the Fact Sheet. Usually comprised of one page of easy-to-read content, these
leaflets can be distributed easily and can effectively inform your practice.

Assignment tips:
For this assignment, begin by selecting one disease that is either emerging or re-emerging in our world today.
Research the disease by using both scholarly and non-scholarly resources. Determine the audience you would
want to share the fact sheet with. This can be patients, other nurses, schools, or health care facilities.
Indicate the audience in the Fact Sheet. Select those pieces of information that are pertinent to your audience.
Develop a 2 page Fact Sheet which addresses the following:
• A brief history of the disease
• The implications of the spread of the disease, including statistical data
• How to detect and prevent the spread of the disease
• How the disease is treated
Provide information in an easy to read bulleted format that is visually stimulating after a short narrative
paragraph of the history is presented
