The article, Emergency Response and Preparedness; One company’s successful approach., by Bill Metzel, talks about a rather extensive plan developed for the Uniguard Insurance Group’s corporate offices. The facility consisted of four office buildings that housed 305 employees, and collectively involved 145,000 square feet. When compared to the risks of many manufacturing operations, those risks associated with only 145,000 square feet, 305 employees, and a mere corporate office operation may seem to pale in comparison. Yet, Uniguard developed a plan that won a 2005 IAEM award and is more detailed than some chemical industries’ plans. How do you think the EMTs and firefighters/chief that were working in the IT department for Uniguard were successful in convincing the Uniguard management to support such an elaborate plan for a corporate office complex? Alternatively, comment on what stands out to you as the most impressive part of Uniguard’s plan?
